I grew up in a family of artists and musicians in Pen Argyl, PA.
My father, Robert Doney, was known for his paintings in oil on canvas. As a child I often sat on the floor of his studio, watching him paint and imitating his work in watercolor and crayon. I sold my first piece at age five – a crayon landscape that I had taped over one of his oils at a gallery opening.
After studying illustration at Syracuse University, I started my career doing caricatures on the boardwalk at Rehoboth Beach, DE. I often joined my father at art shows, displaying my work next to his, not taped over.
I always dreamed of living in NYC “for just one year.” In 1996 I made my move and have lived here happily ever since.
